تنم، تنم، وطنم/My Body, the Country that I Am
Performance and Video 2021
Visual artist Raheleh Filsoofi and musician Reza Filsoofi employ the body as an essential instrument for the investigation of human relations with natural and perceived geography. They explore notions of identity, otherness and cultural communication though self-engagement and performance at a time of social distancing. How can one cross the imaginary and actual boundaries that for centuries have separated cultures and nations, when one cannot even cross the limitations of one’s own body? Raheleh and Reza, who have dedicated their practices to an interactive art process based on community engagement and cultural communication and actuated through meditative recitation, praise the body as the first country one ever inhabits with its multiple boundaries that one first must recognize, respect, and then cross.
