The Only Sound Remains

The installation was divided into two rooms at Bait Obaid Al Shamsi, a historic house opening onto the waterway that leads to the Gulf—the same body of water that reaches the shores of Iran, the artist’s place of origin. Each room held sounds drawn from childhood memories in Iran, juxtaposed with video recordings of Iranian women narrating their stories directly to the viewer. These voices, merged with other layered sounds and emanating from ceramic vessels throughout the space, created an environment where memory, testimony, and the pull of distant homelands converged.
