The Excerpts of Earth is a sensory dialogue between the artist and the earth, articulated through clay, sound, and poetry. It challenges narratives of exploitation by reframing exploration as a way to understand the world and one’s place within it.

The ceramic vessels are formed from clay gathered at multiple locations in Nashville, the artist’s home. The accompanying sounds - recorded during her travels from Nashville to Franconia Sculpture Park in Shafer, Minnesota, and throughout her residency - play alongside her recited poems, creating an auditory map of movement. Soil collected at home, sound collected on the road, and poems carried across distance converge within the vessels, allowing voice and landscape to emanate from the same form.

As a traveling exhibition, The Excerpts of Earth traces the artist’s path: first shown at Mardag Gallery at Franconia Sculpture Park, then at Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, and finally returning to Nashville at ZieherSmith Gallery. Together, the works assemble a map of the artist’s navigation, encounters with soil, sound, memory, and the shifting meaning of home.
